Filament is basically a string of material or 'ink' for [[3D Printing]]. It's usually plastic, although there are some metallic and composite filaments.

==Types of Filament==

There are a variety of filaments:

PLA:
*Plant derived
*Easy to print with
*Biodegradable
*Not good for outdoors

TPU: 
*Flexible

ABS:
*Strong
*Toxic
*Temperature Sensitive (requires enclosure)
*Can be used outdoors

PETG: 
*Strong
*Easier to print than ABS
*Can be used outdoors

Nylon:
*Very Strong
*Prints at high temperature (240-260C--should be printed with all-metal hot end)
*Very hydroscopic (can absorb more than 10% of its weight in less than 24 hours if not stored properly).
*Warps like ABS
*PVA-based glue on heated bed surface works best (@75C).

Others: 
*Composites
*Additives like iron, wood, wax, conductive materials, carbon fiber, etc.
